Introducing Dr. Kamal Khayat
Oklahoma Transportation Research Day Keynote Speaker
Dr. Khayat is Professor of Civil Engineering and director of the Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), Rolla, MO. He serves as director of the University Transportation Center for Research on Concrete Applications for Sustainable Transportation (RE-CAST), a consortium of U.S.-based universities. Prior to joining Missouri S&T, Professor Khayat was on the faculty at the Department of Civil Engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke in Quebec where he served as Chair professor of the National Science and Engineering Research Council industrial chair on high-performance flowable concrete with adapted rheology. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Khayat specializes in the development of advanced construction materials and has conducted pioneer work in the field of rheology and testing of cement-based materials; design of high-performance cement-based materials, including self-consolidating concrete (SCC), high-performance concrete, underwater repair, fiber-reinforced concrete, roller-compacted concrete, and specialty grouts; as well as the use of chemical admixtures and cementitious binder systems to enhance rheology and durability of concrete. His research findings are published in over 275 technical papers. Dr. Khayat has received numerous awards and has served on several technical committees, including ACI 237 on SCC (Chair).
