The SPTC is governed by the center director and associate directors representing member consortium institutions.
The SPTC is run in an open, efficient and collegial manner where each key member of the Center understands his/her role, maintains a high degree of accountability and professionalism, and helps meet the Center’s goals and objectives in a timely manner. The Center Director represents the Center and/or the UTC Program at external meetings, participates in up to two annual meetings convened by US DOT with the directors of all UTCs, and works closely with the Associate Directors, the Advisory Board and others to ensure distributed and timely flow of information and coordination.
Each Associate Director - David Hall (LATECH), Kevin Hall (UARK), Randy Machemehl (UT Austin), Marshan Marick (LU), Gerald Miller (OU), Soheil Nazarian (UTEP), and Sanjaya Senadheera (TTU), Rafiqul Tarefder (UNM), Kelvin Wang (OSU) are responsible for the implementation of the SPTC mission and goals at the institution level, including daily center operations, successful project execution, financial management, public relations and adherence to reporting requirements. The existing infrastructure (staff, administrative structure) at member institutions is a great resource in this regard. Communication and cooperation are central to SPTC’s mode of operation. Regular conference calls among the core leadership and the online project management tool, Basecamp, are used to ensure continuous engagement and seamless operation. An annual leadership retreat is held at a central location to discuss performance, changes needed, challenges, opportunities and future directions.
