Cookout with UTEP and EPCC
As part of its workforce development initiatives, one of the primary missions of SPTC is facilitate a seamless transition for students from El Paso Community College to University of Texas El Paso. To that end, the Transportation Leadership Council at UTEP hosted a cookout to welcome over two dozen science and engineering students from EPCC.

Congratulations Dr. Puppala!
Dr. Anand Puppala, Texas A&M University, recently gave the keynote lecture "UAVs and Remote Sensing Technologies for Proactive Infrastructure Monitoring and Asset Management” at the International Symposium for Automation and Robotics in Construction (ISARC) held at IIT Madras, Chennai in India on July 3-9, 2023.
His most recent journal article, "Eye in the Sky: 360° Inspection of Bridge Infrastructure Using Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)" was published in August 2023, while his article "Evaluation of Geopolymer for Stabilization of Sulfate-Rich Expansive Soils for Supporting Pavement Infrastructure" was published in May 2022. In between, he presented a poster along with four other researchers entitled, "Monitoring Transportation Assets Using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)" in January 2023.

2023 Dine’ Maker Faire
On June 23, 2023, Navajo Technical University hosted its 6th Annual Dine’ Maker Faire. Participants were students who spent four weeks in NTU’s Summer STEM and Skills program, which allows high school students to explore potential career paths such as welding, construction, culinary arts, engineering, and marketing. The program focuses on practical skills and individualized attention from instructors, allowing students to take their academic and professional careers to new heights.
This year, fifty students from Wingate High School participated in the program, receiving certificates of achievement and up to 9 hours of college credit.
Students presented a wide variety of projects, from drones (electrical engineering) to welded metal flowers used as centerpieces (welding), birdhouses and picnic tables (carpentry), to French and Japanese cuisine (culinary arts).
