2025 Internships

For more information, contact SPTC Director Musharraf Zaman at zaman@ou.edu

As a Regional University Transportation Center (UTC), the Southern Plains Transportation Center (SPTC) is committed to strengthening the UTC program’s legacy of invaluable contributions to transportation education and workforce development by executing a comprehensive strategy of innovative programs that encourage K-12 students, college students or adult learners to become transportation professionals. An important element of SPTC’s workforce development effort is the Transportation Regional Internship Program (TRIP).

SPTC students who are legally qualified to participate in the internship program (citizens, permanent residents, etc.) may apply. Students from other schools may be considered.

Alexis Gomez

Alexis Gomez is currently employed as an Electrical Engineering Student Intern at ENF Products, LLC. Alexis works on moisture sensing devices is part of a broader effort at ENF products to explore innovative, reliable, and practical sensor technologies for environmental and structural monitoring applications.

Tanner Chambers

Tanner joined Haskell Lemon as a General Laborer Intern in May 2025. He began the summer at our West OKC asphalt plant, where he was responsible for monitoring plant operations and ensuring all moving parts functioned properly.  He later transitioned to one of our asphalt paving crews, contributing to several roadway projects, including a two-mile project near Weleetka, a three-mile project near Piedmont, and a three-mile project near Blanchard. To conclude his internship, Tanner spent time with our bridge division, gaining valuable experience on projects near Tinker Air Force Base and in Ardmore.

Jeremiah Nwajei

Jeremiah's work is on the durability characterization for ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC).

Ted Atera

Ted's work is on the mechanical properties testing for ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC).

Daniel Ramirez

Daniel Ramirez is currently employed as a Mechanical Engineering Student Intern at ENF Products, LLC. This summer, his primary focus has been on the development of a continuous nanofiber production machine. Daniel’s work is essential to advancing ENF Products’ development of a high-performance nanofiber coating platform. By refining the prototype and laying the groundwork for future improvements, he is helping expand potential applications of the technology in areas , specifically advanced composite material for construction.

Haskell Lemon

Bryston Williams

Bryston was trained in the fundamentals of digital mapping using ArcGIS Pro and QGIS and applied these skills to create and manage spatial subsets for the defined regions of interest. In parallel, Bryston learned to automate the downloading of Sentinel-1 InSAR datasets from the NASA EarthData platform using a Python script, enabling efficient selection based on acquisition dates, polarization, and bounding box parameters.

Headshot of Carson Guillory

Farris Shawareb

Kaden Smith

Alton Robinson

Alton began his summer working in the Quality Control (QC) Lab, splitting his time between the Oklahoma City and Shawnee facilities. His daily responsibilities included processing and testing asphalt samples, as well as assisting with the development of new mix designs.

Later, Alton transitioned to shadowing our project management team. During this time, he was introduced to the fundamentals of project oversight, including plan review, scheduling of work, material procurement, specification review, and subcontractor coordination.

Carson Guillory

Carson's work focused on the formulating the various superplasticizers for adjust the rheological properties of  ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC).

Laraimie Reid

Laraimie's work is on the characterization of interfacial properties between concrete and ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC

Tristan Norwood

Tristan's work was on the mixing and sample preparation of the UHPC sample.

Richard Werener

During the 12-week summer internship with Standard Engineering each intern spent two weeks in 5 different departments. Geotech, Construction Materials Field Sampling, Construction Materials Lab Testing, Construction Management, and Building Envelope. By creating this internship rotation each intern watched the progression of projects from the beginning, middle, and end.

Princess Kanu

Princess started her journey at Texas Southern University (TSU) with a bachelor's in Biology. After graduating, she worked in healthcare, where precision wasn’t optional and every detail mattered. Seeing how human systems work, she recognized the impacts of poor infrastructural design on communities and their quality of life. Advocating for improved accessibility and infrastructure Princess pursued a Master’s in Transportation Planning and Management at TSU. She is the Secretary of the ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) TSU student chapter. As a graduate student and research assistant, Princess has contributed to projects focused on automated vehicle systems, pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and urban transit safety. Her current internship with Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA’s Capital Planning Department) places her at the heart of it all, as she continues to advocate for improved mobility options where transportation systems are designed to serve people with care, clarity, and purpose. From hospital corridors to city corridors, Princess is contributing to next-gen transportation innovations.
