Alton began his summer working in the Quality Control (QC) Lab, splitting his time between the Oklahoma City and Shawnee facilities. His daily responsibilities included processing and testing asphalt samples, as well as assisting with the development of new mix designs.

Later, Alton transitioned to shadowing our project management team. During this time, he was introduced to the fundamentals of project oversight, including plan review, scheduling of work, material procurement, specification review, and subcontractor coordination.

Carson Guillory

Carson's work focused on the formulating the various superplasticizers for adjust the rheological properties of  ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC).

Laraimie Reid

Laraimie's work is on the characterization of interfacial properties between concrete and ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC

Tristan Norwood

Tristan's work was on the mixing and sample preparation of the UHPC sample.

During the 12-week summer internship with Standard Engineering each intern spent two weeks in 5 different departments. Geotech, Construction Materials Field Sampling, Construction Materials Lab Testing, Construction Management, and Building Envelope. By creating this internship rotation each intern watched the progression of projects from the beginning, middle, and end.

Princess Kanu

Princess started her journey at Texas Southern University (TSU) with a bachelor's in Biology. After graduating, she worked in healthcare, where precision wasn’t optional and every detail mattered. Seeing how human systems work, she recognized the impacts of poor infrastructural design on communities and their quality of life. Advocating for improved accessibility and infrastructure Princess pursued a Master’s in Transportation Planning and Management at TSU. She is the Secretary of the ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) TSU student chapter. As a graduate student and research assistant, Princess has contributed to projects focused on automated vehicle systems, pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and urban transit safety. Her current internship with Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA’s Capital Planning Department) places her at the heart of it all, as she continues to advocate for improved mobility options where transportation systems are designed to serve people with care, clarity, and purpose. From hospital corridors to city corridors, Princess is contributing to next-gen transportation innovations.

Dejoy Lee

Dejoy Lee spent the summer of 2025 as an intern employed by Poe & Associates Inc. During her internship, she received training in Bentley software and became familiar with reading and interpreting plan sheets, as well as calculating pay quantities. She was also introduced to the fundamentals of bridge design. In addition to design work, Dejoy visited multiple jobsites, allowing her to see firsthand how engineering plans are brought to life in the field.

Evan Andrews

Evan was hired to learn more about the construction management field and all that Poe & Associates Inc. has to offer. Over the course of the last 2 summers Evan was exposed to a lot of different aspects in the field and office. When starting he was able to join Braden Brown at Crossroads I-35 and I-240 and was able to learn important field knowledge and see the work of an inspector. Evan was also tasked with the inspection of the Atoka waterline which is a 72” waterline from Atoka lake to Oklahoma City to supply water. When in the office Evan was tasked with checking quantities for different projects as well as working in excel to create pay item sheets/ item lists.

Nathan Caviness

Nathan was employed by Poe & Associates Inc. as an intern for the Summers of 2024 and 2025. Nathan was one of two engineering interns hired to learn about construction management and all that Poe & Associates Inc. can offer. Between the two summers spent here, he was involved in different projects and responsibilities. He was introduced by starting his work on ticket audits and was quick to grasp spreadsheets and files. He has attended multiple meetings and was highly present in Antlers, Ok.

Fernando Castro Anchondo

During Fernando’s summer 2025 internship with Sundt Construction, he worked on the construction of bridge structures in Midland, Texas. Responsibilities included overseeing panel deliveries and installation, backfilling, assisting with survey layout and verification, and preparing work plans and daily schedules to support various structural activities. This hands-on experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of field operations, coordination, and quality control in large-scale transportation projects.

Odalys Balanzar Almazan

This summer Odalys had an internship with Granite Construction in the estimating department in Irving Texas, in which she assisted with estimating quantities for the bidding of different projects of the Texas region. I worked on drainage, structures and concrete pavement take offs and key maps.

Odalys worked from December 2022 to May 2024 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Center for Transportation Infrastructure Systems (CTIS), and was also a 2024 Dwight D. Eisenhower Fellowship Program Recipient at Transportation Research Board Conference in Washington D.C.

Emma Hernandez

Emma was employed by Poe & Associates Inc. as an intern for the Summer of 2025. Emma was one of two returning engineering interns hired to learn more about the roadway team and the transportation field. She was tasked with helping finish the side drain hydraulics for state highway 76. For that same project she also controlled all the erosion. Emma and the other roadway intern were able to start a few new ADA compliant ramps at Lake Arcadia. Emma was able to learn from some of the roadway team members and learn from their many years of experience.

Jackson Crum

Jackson Crum returned to Poe & Associates, Inc. as an intern during the Summer and Fall of 2025. He is a Senior at Oklahoma State University working on a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering. He began the summer by assisting with open-channel drainage design on a rural highway. He used the Rational Method and other processes to perform calculations for drainage. Jackson also assisted in calculating quantities for multiple projects. He helped draft alignments for multi-use trails for a city feasibility study and as the summer came to a close, Jackson performed initial surveying work and preliminary alignment work for ADA-compliant sidewalks for a city project.

Sidra Akel

Sidra was a 2025 summer intern employed by Poe & Associates. She was hired to learn more about transportation, more specifically structural engineering. During the course of this internship, she visited different aspects of transportation and what makes Poe a successful business. She also got the opportunity to visit multiple construction sites and view the different stages of construction. Sidra had the privilege to meet many well-known names in civil engineering on her various trips as well as work with many knowledgeable within Poe. One of her main focuses was learning what structural engineers work on in their various projects and what it takes to complete these projects.

Missel Sanchez

Missel is currently serving as a Water/Wastewater Engineering Intern at Jacobs, working on the $180M Robert R. Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant Headworks Improvement Project. Her responsibilities include assisting with construction inspections, leading the development of equipment specifications, managing as-built drawings, and ensuring all construction activities comply with industry codes and safety regulations.

Ricardo Renteria

During my time at CTIS, I contributed to the development of an innovative infrastructure solution by creating asphalt specimens to sustain electronic components. These specimens are designed to enable electric vehicles to charge wirelessly while in motion, as well as to collect and analyze data for various mix designs.

Since May 2025, I have been interning with TxDOT in the Advanced Planning Development section, where I assist engineers with Utility Coordination. My role focuses on ensuring that the utility coordination processes run efficiently and smoothly throughout project planning.
