This summer, the University of Oklahoma’s Gallogly College of Engineering welcomed 14 high school students from across central Oklahoma for the 2025 National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI), a free, two-week immersive program designed to spark interest in transportation careers and STEM education. The program offered hands-on learning, field visits, and workshops led by university faculty and industry professionals.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Southern Plains Transportation Center (SPTC), in collaboration with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and IBT-ABC/UTC Center at Florida International University, held the inaugural Transportation Industry and Workforce Development Symposium! This all-new hybrid event featured speakers and panelists from all walks of life, from students pursuing a career in transportation to industry professionals and academics discussing the future of the transportation workforce
The AI in Motion: Shaping the Future of Mobility and Safety Symposium was held on May 15-17, 2024 in Austin, Texas. Members of SPTC were in attendance, both as planning committee members and attendees. OkDOT’s Tim Gatz participated in a panel in which state DOT's shared their hopes for AI research and how it can be applied to the transportation sector.
SPTC is pleased to have participated in the 2024 inaugural Future of Transportation summit in Washington, D.C. This exclusive, invitation-only event brought together entities from across the country to discuss developments in transportation and infrastructure.
Representatives from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s OST-R Office and other members of the Southern Plains Transportation Center visited the Southern Plains Transportation Center on the University of Oklahoma campus on May 1, 2024.his special visit included demonstrations of the technology SPTC researchers are utilizing to improve roadways nationwide, as well as poster viewings and presentations of current research projects being undertaken by SPTC.
