AI in Asphalt Workshop

In collaboration with Dongre Laboratory Services Inc., SPTC is organizing a three-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Asphalt. An overview of this workshop is given below and in the attached flyer. As noted, one of the goals of this workshop is to help skilled professionals work smarter, faster, and with greater confidence. We encourage you to review and register (see link below). If you have questions or need additional information, please e-mail Dr. Raj Dongre at rajdongre@dongrelabs.com or Dr. Ashik Ali at syed.a.ali@ou.edu. For any logistical questions, please contact Olivia Dailey at olivia.dailey@ou.edu.

Build your AI confidence for the future of asphalt paving

Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming part of the transportation and asphalt landscape. For many professionals, that creates both curiosity and concern. Some see opportunities, while others worry that AI may eventually replace jobs. The reality is much more encouraging: AI is most valuable when it supports experienced professionals, not when it tries to replace them.

That is the purpose of our AI in Asphalt Paving introductory workshop. This course was created specifically for asphalt technicians, engineers, researchers, graduate students, DOT personnel, and construction professionals who want a practical understanding of AI and its applications in the asphalt industry. No prior coding experience is required.

This is especially timely because transportation agencies across the country are already moving in this direction, and recent peer-exchange findings have identified training and workforce readiness as urgent needs. The professionals who learn now will be better prepared to adapt, contribute, and lead as AI becomes more common in the workplace.

Participants will learn foundational AI concepts in plain language, see live demonstrations of tools such as LLMs, Chatbots (ChatGPT), Vibe Coding, Python programming language, and Jupyter (Colab), and explore how AI can improve efficiency in analysis, documentation, troubleshooting, and decision support. The workshop is designed to help attendees understand what AI can and cannot do, so they can use it responsibly and effectively in their own roles.

If you work in the asphalt paving industry and want to understand how AI can make you more effective rather than less relevant, this workshop is for you. AI is not here to replace your expertise. It is here to amplify it.

AI is not here to replace asphalt professionals. It is here to help skilled professionals work smarter, faster, and with greater confidence.

We would be glad to have you join us.
